What is the fiber content of the "silk"?

Yes, they are pure silk, but I think the confusion may be over the fact that silk comes in very different WEAVES. The particular weave of fabric is silk CHIFFON, a very sheer and flowy fabric that still has a bit of a "rougher" textures than other types of silk weaves like charmeuse. In fact, checking on the company website, the company actually does make other mulberry silk items that feature different weaves like twill or satin.

There are different types of silk as well (different types and origins of silkworm cocoons). India is also famous for high quality silks, but many of their silkworms are usually a different variety than the silkworms in China. The Dana Xu Silk Scarves (they also make wool scarves and shawls as well as wool and silk blend items), are 100% Mulberry Silk (which means the worms are fed on the leaves of Mulberry trees--this is native to China where the scarves are actually made, so the factory can probably get their silk fabric or thread for very cheap). All tags attached to the two shawls I ordered have "100% silk" on them, as well as identifying the manufacturer as "Hangzhou Chuanyue Silk Import & Export Co." with an address that includes "Hangzhou China Silk City Xiacheng District", which is a real thing--a popular tourist spot known for silk production. The number of threads used in making the fabric can also determine how the fabric looks and feels. Just as there is a vast difference between thread counts in cotton sheets, there are different thread counts, weights, and thread lengths used in different silks.

Even so, there are actually simple ways you can test fabric to determine if they are silk or synthetics--unfortunately one of those things is burning and I'm not about to burn my beautiful scarves even if they were polyester. You might want to Google for information.

Hi dear friend, thanks for your nice question. Yes it is washable. Our 100% pure silk plus size shawl contains high protein, just like our hair, so the washing way can follow the hair washing.

(1) For usual use, gently rinse then hang up for air.

(2) For some dirty, better hand wash below 30 ℃ water with neutral detergent.

(3) For stain, dry cleaning is preferable. Kindly reminder: No washing machine & no bleach.

It keeps smooth and bright after ironing with low heat.
